Vishal's recent Tamil release Kathakali has been dubbed into Telugu with the same name. It is a whodunit murder mystery that is sprinkled with regular commercial elements like romance, comedy and action. It is fairly engaging to an extent but soon looses the fizzle because of thin story and lazy writing towards the end.<br /><b><br />What is it about?</b><br /><br />Kamalakar (Vishal) and his family are tortured by a local rowdy Samba who is against Kamalakar's brother's wish to setup an independent business. Kamalakar seeks revenge but he moves on. While he is about to marry his girlfriend (Catherine), Samba is killed and Kamalakar is the prime suspect for the murder. Kamalakar doesn't know how to get out of the trap laid by a cunning police officer. So he executes a plan to find the murderer.<br /><br /><b>Performances:</b><br /><br />Vishal is good as the regular guy. This is one of his finest performances till date. Cathrine is okay as the girlfriend. She goes missing after a point. She is just used for the romantic track and is hardly seen in the second half. Karunas comedy doesn't work. The actor who played the role of police inspector is menacing. Jayaprakash is wasted.<br /><br /><b>Technicalities:</b><br /><br />Songs are not impressive and thankfully there are only a couple of them in it. BGM is impressive though. That whistle sound is nicely done. Cinematography is fine. Most part of the movie runs in dark and the cinematographer did a very good job in setting the mood right with his lighting. Editing is crisp. Production values are decent.<br /><b><br />Thumbs Up:</b><br /><br />Mystery element<br /><br />Thrilling Sequences<br /><br /><b>Thumbs Down:</b><br /><br />Romantic episode<br /><br />Comedy<br /><br /><b>Analysis:</b><br /><br />Like most of the Tamil films, Kathakali too had a simple plot but an interesting screenplay. It is based on the revenge drama but Pandya Raj did it in whodunit style. It takes so much time to get on track. Romantic episode between Vishal and Catherine is anything but interesting. Same scenes are repeated until we get bored of it.<br /><br />Story gets interesting before the interval as the main villain is killed and all fingers point at the hero. Pandya Raj did well in holding the interest of the viewers for a while, but even the mystery element gets uninteresting as the film takes predictable path. Climax part looks contrived as if the director is in a hurry to end it.<br />         <br />Kathakali could have been better had the director continued to throw surprises at us until the end. Even the big reveal at the end didn't make an impact because of lazy and cinematic climax. There are scenes that are worth watching but Kathakali falls flat on a whole.<br /><i><b><br />Verdict: Misses the mark.</b></i></div>

Run is a remake of Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Neram which was appreciated by niche audience and critics. Run is a faithful remake of the original that is almost a frame to frame presentation of the original. Run has few positives such as its short run time and interesting second half. But the film also has its share of negatives like leisure passing and too many uninteresting passages in between the thrilling ride.<br /><b><br />What is it about?</b><br /><br />Sanju (Sundeep) life goes topsy-turvy as he loses his job. He takes loan from a dreaded loan shark named Vaddi Raju (Bobby Simha). He is very notorious and has his own style of getting back his money. Finally the day arrives where Sanju has to return the money he took from Raju. While Sanju's friend helps him to get the amount, a thief nabs the money from Sanju and run away. Sanju has to find a way to repay the loan by 5 PM. Meanwhile his girlfriend (Anisha) is kidnapped by Raju for another reason.<br /><br /><b>Performances:</b><br /><br />Sundeep Kishan is good as the common man who is caught in a situation. His subtle body language and dialog delivery suited the character. Anisha is pretty. Bobby Simha is a revelation. He is too good as the villain. Brahmaji as a comedy cop is decent. Praveen, Madhu and Posani were fine in their supporting characters. Mahat is alright as a careless guy.<br /><br /><b>Technicalities:</b><br /><br />Sai Karthik's musical score is mediocre. Dialogues are good. Cinematography is fairly decent and editing is crisp. Director Ani Kanneganti is religiously faithful to the original. He didn't even make an attempt to alter anything from Neram. He did an okay job in holding the film well. Production values are neat.<br /><br /><b>Thumbs Up:</b><br /><br />Run time<br /><br />Climax<br /><br />Bobby Simha<br /><br /><b>Thumbs Down:</b><br /><br />First Half<br /><br />Slow pace<br /><br /><b>Analysis:</b><br /><br />Run has a very short run time of 109 minutes, but it surprisingly runs at a leisure pace. Films having such little run time are supposed to gripping and moving at a breakneck pace. However Run takes its own sweet time to unfold and there are many passages in the film that are totally uninteresting and out of place.<br />     <br />Movie gets interesting when two thieves rob the hero and heroine in two different places. It loses steam due to the uneven characterization of the villain. The attempts at comedy were misfired due to bad casting. Run only gets back on track when a surprising twist comes just before the climax.<br /><br />Run is a film that will appeal to audience who look for freshness, but it has its shortcomings. It could have been a good film if there were better comedic moments and thrilling elements thrown into the narrative. The attempt can be lauded but not the end product. You may watch it if you are game for something different from the usual.<br /><br /><i><b>Verdict: Runs at a Snail's pace.</b></i></div>

The film is remake of “Maan Karate”, a Tamil movie written and produced by A.R.Murugadoss and directed by Thirukumaran starring Sivakarthikeyan and Hansika Motwani. The story is mix of fantasy, romance and boxing. Though the story is somewhat good on paper, the screenplay is not in the same league. But some portions of the movie are entertaining. The track when Kishore and his gang try hard to ready up Nara Rohit for boxing championship is funny. The jokes have worked out here in the first half.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.2em;">
So far Nara Rohith has done serious roles but for the first time director Kumar Nagendra has put him in a role that requires him to crack jokes. Nagendra who directed a highly appreciated ‘Gundello Godari’ has remained faithful to the original story of Murugadoss except changing some scenes. He has done neat job.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.2em;">
While the first half of the movie is focused on the romance and comedy track, the second half turns sentimental and seriousness. While the comedy is intermittently good, the romance part is weak. A better looking heroine should have been taken for this role. She is neither stunning beauty nor she has acting skills.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.2em;">
Nara Rohith is okay in the role of a clueless guy about sports. He has shown his performance skills in the last part of the movie. Shakalaka Shankar as his friend is good. Villain Kabir Singh is fitted to the T in the role of boxing champion ‘Killer Raju’. Vennela Kishore and his gang have done good job.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.2em;">
On technical front the movie has decent cinematography but the music is a letdown. The songs are not pleasant, they come and hinder the progress of the story. Boxing stunts were choreographed well. Production values are decent.</div>

As said, director Kumar Nagendra has done his job well in the first half with comedy part.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.2em;">
<strong>Bottom-line</strong>: ‘Tuntari’ is faithful remake of ‘Maan Karate’ with some good laughs in the first half. It has many flaws and weak second half, but it turns out okay movie on the whole.</div>

Rakshasudu is a charming little story about the crossing of paths between the tangible world and the hereafter. Meet Conman Mass (Surya).  He does his con work with the help of Kittu (Premgi). But things turn around when a local goon tries to recover his money and kill him. One of the major asset of the film is Surya. He simply steals the show with his two roles. His cunning mannerisms and romantic angle was nicely showcased in Mass character. Whereas, he impressives everone with his classy serious act in Shiva's role. Nayantara looks pretty in her short role. Premgi character  travels throughout the film, his comedy punch lines work in parts. Pranita Subhash is convincing in her role. Prathiban played a very important role in the film as a funny police officer. Samudrakhanni- Sharath - Riyaaz were very good in antagonist roles. Rest of the characters were fine in their roles.</div>

Ghost stories seem to be flavor of the season nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that they are beginning to horrify audiences for all the wrong things. The premise of Rakshasudu seems inspired by the Hollywood film Ghost Town (2008), Athma Bandam, Ghost (1990) and Hum Tum Aur Ghost (2010). The story had the promise, but the screenplay of the film felt like a pendulum that swings from pernicious comedy to serious revenge drama, and shifts between them is pretty precipitous. As abrupt as some of the scenes look like the film was arbitrarily edited and glued together. It was extremely disorienting. If it was meant to be a revenge drama, Venkat Prabhu failed miserably on that count. There is not a single promising funny or action scene that you will remember when you step of the theatre. DirectorVenkat Prabhu known for his magical original takes completely failed in his aspect, except for couple of promising scenes. At the same time Director leaves away some logics aside.. At the time of 75crore robbery, not even single security guard was there to stop him. Similarly only few get successfully cross over, Never tries to clear what happened to rest of the ghosts.</div>

Coming to other technical aspects, Music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja completely failed with Telugu songs,background score was not upto the mark. Cinematography by Rajasekhar (25th film) is one of the major assets. His picturization elevated few scenes in the first half and interval time. Editing by Praveen EL could have been crispier. He could have easily trimmed down forced song sequences. Sashank Vennalaganti (200th film) dialogues were appropriate. Selva action episodes were over the top. Production values of " Medha Films " were middling.  </div>

On the flipside its dragged narration, laga in the screenplay, Yuvan music, very routine flash back episode and highend thrills. On the whole, Rakshasudu is a one watch fir die hard Surya fans. </div>
